How has the FIRST program impacted your life?

This is my first year of robotics — going into the second year — and robotics has made me considerably want to work harder and think outside of the box. Robotics has inspired me to help the community more and care more about education. The FIRST program truly has changed my mindset toward helping the community and creating a better education in our school district. I love FIRST robotics.

How has the FIRST program impacted your life?

Being on Team 3667  definitely has been a major part of my life so far. It has changed many aspects of my life, a few bad but mostly for the good. My schooling has changed because of robots. I now take classes that are more geared toward what I want to do when I grow older, one of the classes is Intro to Engineering. In addition, my family helps out with the program and my little sister wants to join Marketing soon. Robotics has decreased the amount of time I am able to spend with my friends from school, but it has been the reason that I gained so many new ones. Robotics has changed my life immensely, and I wouldn't change it for the world.

How has the FIRST program impacted your life?

The FIRST program has affected my life in so many ways. It's mostly affected my life in the way I think about problems. I also have gained many friends from the FIRST program. The FIRST program also has the rest of my family contributing to robotics stuff. The program has shown me where my skills are and where I need to improve. FIRST also has opened up job opportunities that I otherwise would not have, such as engineering. The FIRST program has introduced many mentors to me and they have all helped me greatly. FIRST has taught me more marketing, design, build, cad, electrical and other skills that middle school nor high school could teach.

How has the FIRST program impacted your life?

Robotics has helped me a lot these past few years. It has built a community, outside of school, where I can get can get hands-on experience to things I normally do in school. This community has created a family that I know has my back.I remember when Serenity and I were hooking up LEDs to the bottom of the cart and we had to go underneath to line them around the cart and Serenity got stuck under it, we had to pull her out. Through robotics I have created life-long relationships and found a career path that I want to pursue   it is just such a great environment for students to learn in.

How has the FIRST program impacted your life?

The FIRST program has impacted my life by making my time-management skills better, by enabling me to learn real-world lessons and by improving my building skills. I have learned a lot about wiring in the short time  I have been on the team. It is shocking how much impact electrical has on the robot and I am glad to be the sub-team lead as part of the Mecanum Knights. I love learning about the whole process about how the whole robot comes together. FIRST has made me open my eyes to all of the opportunities that can come from this wonderful program.

The FIRST robotics program has greatly impacted many aspects of my life. The FIRST robotics program got me interested in engineering and that is now the career field I plan to work in. It has been a big time commitment, but has taught me an extensive amount of skills ranging from using machinery to building a good work ethic. Not only has it impacted me educationally but has also introduced me to many other amazing individuals.

FIRST has impacted me in just about every way. First off, I new that I wanted to do something tech related as a job, but being on the FRC team has shown me many sides of the tech field. It has given me a chance to experience them all. I now have a better idea of what I want to do and how to achieve it. All of my friends are involved in FIRST one way or another, The team has allowed me to meet people I never would have met otherwise and to spend more time with old friends doing fun things. My time management had been honed. By participating in FRC I have found schoolwork is a breeze. Even on heavy homework days in the heat of build season, I can get through it easily. Being on a FRC team also has given me the opportunity of an internship at a local automation solutions business (also a team sponsor), Triton Automation, where I have meet even more great people and gained valuable experience that I never would have if I was not part of the team. For years my parents tried to get me to do team activities such as sports outside of school. I never like playing them — now I have a sport for the mind that I love to compete in. The robotics team always comes up as a talking point at family events with grandparents, aunts and uncles and they are blown away when come to a competition.

How has the FIRST program impacted your life?

I joined the team in November of 2017. My parents say that I'm a "self starter", because I had sent in the application, got an interview scheduled and then told them that they had to take me to interview. I am so glad that I got them to because I have learned so many new things. My organizational skills have gone from zero to a thousand percent better since that day. My speech and writing also have improved dramatically, since I have to talk to so many people and write up things for the engineering notebook now. On top of that, I have learned how big Safety is and also how to treat someone if they are injured. Learning many things about engineering has opened my eyes to may other opportunities that I wouldn't have thought of in the past. I would like to go into something that involves engineering and animals. FIRST has taught me to think out of the box in a lot of situations — and how to manage my time so much better. FIRST competitions will be loads of fun because we have a great team and we are super close, like a family.

How has the FIRST program impacted your life?

This is my fourth year on Team 3667. I want to become a mechanical engineer, so my experience in FIRST during high school has been the most important preparation for this field.

My mentors feel that understanding the engineering process is key to success in FIRST robotics, therefore we begin each season of designing a robot by dissecting the game in order to come up with the best strategy to achieve the highest score. this is not un-like problem solving skills that engineers use when analyzing a problem. It's only after we determine the best strategy that we begin brainstorming possible designs for achieving our goal. The first year on the team I was not sure if engineering is the right decision for me. I started to learn to use different tools in the shop. From hand to power tools, where safety is the first step to success, so wearing safety glasses in the shop became a habit for me. At first I was not comfortable handling power tools that make loud noises. After using them though it wasn't as hard as I thought. Not only did I learn to use tools I made many friends.

I continued to pursue the building side of the robotics program in my second and third years with the knowledge that I had gained from the first. With that knowledge I started to take part in scouting during the competition events.

In my fourth and final year as a team member, I wanted to do something different.  Scouting became it's own sub-team and I took the role of the Scouting Sub-Team Lead. It has been a nice challenge to be working on things that I have never done.

I feel four years of this process has made me confident that engineering is the right field for me. I find that breaking down problems and discovering new ideas for solving them to be most exciting that I have accomplished in high school as an extra-curricular activity.

In school the FIRST program introduced me to many new friends and gave me a chance to be a part of something bigger. Within my family, I've noticed that they all seem to be more interested in the robotics program as well as finding ways to help out our team. I've made lots of new friends from other schools through robotics and with out that, I wouldn't know half the people that I do now. The FIRST program in my opinion, helps to give teenagers a place to think outside of the box and to experiment with technology, to try to be innovative and creative. The FIRST program has given me a chance to see if I can step up to the challenge that they throw at us.

How has the FIRST program impacted your life?

The FIRST program has strongly impacted all aspects of my life, including my family, school and social life. For my family, it's helped them see me in a new light. Being the youngest, I always was viewed as the "baby", but know that hey have seen some of the things I've done with my team — they've seen me and the robot I helped build —they have a different regard for me. I'm not seen as naive and young. For my school, I get the joy of bringing a robot to Port Huron High School for special occasions to show and to entertain my peers and to help get them interested in robotics.

I enjoy wearing my team shirt to school and having inquiring people ask me about the team, as well as talking to my teachers about the team. Sometimes my teachers haven't heard about the team, but they are always quite interested. Finally, regarding my friends, I met one of my best friends my entire life on the robotics team. I even have introduced some of my school friends to my robotics friends, now we all hang out together and go out for a movie or such. My robotics team and the FIRST program have greatly impacted my life and my relationships with the people I know in a positive way and I enjoy it all!

FIRST has given me time to do the things I like to do. I am using my skills that I have had all my life and expanding them greatly. I also have discovered many new and interesting skills. When I work, I do things that I love to, for a purpose now. I have invested a lot of my personal time into FIRST program and it is worth every minute. Most of my family is in the program with me, my dad is a mentor and brother Evan is on the build sub-team. Before FIRST, my family and I only made small robots, now, we can make full-sized robots! I  also have met many new friends through FIRST. FIRST has made me part of a team that is very enthusiastic and fun. They have taught me new things and am very glad that I will have the opportunity to be here for the next four years. Also at school, everyone is more interested in me now because I say "I'm building robots" and everyone loves that! FIRST is awesome!

How has the FIRST program impacted your life?

Before FRC, I had significantly less knowledge of robotics and computer science, fewer friends with common interest, and no idea of what career I wanted to pursue. FIRST Robotics helped to change that; I gained so much over the past couple of years as a part of Team 3667. In school I began to enjoy and understand math and science better — and then brought that knowledge to robotics on the programming sub-team. Before FRC, I wasn't really sure which field I wanted to go into for a career. I wasn't sure what my passions were. I found one in programming. I know now that I really would like to go into the field of engineering and computer science. One of the most important parts of FRC is the the people. I found friends with common interests and the same motivation to do well academically. The people that I have met through FRC I have grown close to, and our team is like a second family to me now. I know that I will cherish all the memories and friends I have made at FRC, as well as the knowledge I've gained. This is what FRC has given me, it changed my life.

FIRST has impacted my life in many ways. Shortly after joining, first my ability to talk to people face-to-face increased, which was a great improvement for me. Also, it helped bring my family closer together because we would bounce ideas off each other. At school, my grades went from A's to A+'s. My problem-solving skills increased a lot. Sometimes I confused myself with problems in which the program wasn't working with my code, but thanks to my new skills, I overcame them. FIRST has helped me in many ways, from making friends to making face-to-face talks and from knowing nuts from bolts to using Labview. Thanks for this great opportunity!

How has the FIRST program impacted your life?

The FIRST Robotics program has impacted my life in a multitude of ways. Mainly, it's helped me feel a little more comfortable talking to other people and it has helped improve my work ethic. With the busy schedule of Build Season, it's important to analyze and understand the task that's given to you quickly and efficiently, and the robotics program has helped me greatly in that aspect. It has given me new skills that I didn't have before and has helped improve some of the old ones that I already had and brought with me. It also helped introduce me to new friends that I probably wouldn't have met otherwise. I believe the FIRST Robotics program is a great way for people to meet new people and to learn about aspects of the real world while having a good time doing so. Those are just a couple of ways that the robotics program has impacted my life.

FIRST robotics has impacted my life by showing me how to produce real-world-quality videos. FIRST has affected my family by having them drive me to robotics and having them look forward to the upcoming competitions. It takes up a bit of time after Kick Off, but it's worth it. People have seen my mom's posts on Facebook and they are proud of me.

How has the FIRST program impacted your life?

The FIRST program has allowed me to develop skills not taught in a school environment while also allowing me to utilize what I've already been taught. I started out with the naive mindset that I could just start building from a rough design and something would work as a result. The program has instilled a sense of how to propperly utilize the Engineering process and harvest my science and math knowledge to create viable solutions.Through this program, I've also come in contact with different people who have come together with a shared vision, resulting in a handful of friends and many capable acquaintances. the time spent has taken me away from my family, but they've been understanding as to the value of the program.

How has the FIRST program impacted your life?

I knew about Team 3667 for quite a long time but was never interested in joining. Then I heard from a friend of what they were doing and it peeked my interest. At the time I thought that I was too young to join, then a mentor and a family friend invited me to "Kick Off". I was hooked and completed the application. It was a great decision! I have had many opportunities and experiences as a result of being a member. I have made many friends and vastly increased my skill set. I know how to properly use many tools — many more than I knew before. This is the valuable experience I will need for a career in engineering which I am now wanting to pursue as a result.

The FIRST program emphasizes time management, time for me is more ridgid now. It has to be or else I risk slipping in one or more responsibilities, while focusing to much on anther one. Robotics has stressed the importance of this concept and incentivized me to follow this strategy. FIRST Robotics has had a great impact on my life and I'm better off for it. I'd say that's pretty neat.

How has the FIRST program impacted your life?

My life was simple, but it changed four years ago; robotics is my first team in United State, and I stay on this team for four years.  When I first came to visit this team,  I think the machines are cool because I've never seen them before. Also, the United States is a high- tech country in my mind — and I have a lot of curiosity — so I decided to join this team. My English level was not  good at the beginning. Apart from studying in school, this is another place for learning English outside the school.

Robotic is my starting point to learn everything, to let me understand the culture of Western countries. I saw everyone's collective exchanges, passionate meetings, and a lots of activities on this team. Therefore, the robotics team is a large part of my life. Sometimes, it causes me tired, sad, happy, but I learn a lot in here.

In my first year in United States. I was a quiet little girl, but I become more and more lively. In fact, the most influential main reason is Robotics Competitions. I saw people from different countries, and teammates cheer loudly . I felt everyone's' passions . Before I cheer for team in mind, but now I dared to cheer loudly — and to cheer for everyone. In fact, I think the biggest change for me is my traits. In fact, I  dared to express myself —before may hide myself because of the language and the new environment. FIRST program let me restore. I like passion, not quiet.
All in all, FIRST program let me see past myself. Let me enjoy the game and life.

This is because during those events, all of our hard work pays off.  My social life has benefited, too,  since I convinced two of my friends to consider joining the team. Overall my schedule and life at the moment has completely changed.

Hi  my  name  is  Jewan  and  and  my  sub-team  is  CAD  and  I’m   here  to  tell  you  a  couple  ways  the  First  program  impacted  my  life. One  way   it   impacted  my  life,  is  it's  giving  me  time-management  skills  since  we  work  so  many  hours.    We  are  here  Monday,  Wednesday  and  Thursday  6  to  9 p.m.  and  10 a.m  to  5 p.m. on  Saturdays, so  we  have  to  learn  how  to  fit  in  our  homework  and  extra-curricular activities . Some  more  examples  of  first  impacting  my  life  is  giving  me  life  skills and social  skills. Also  I’m  getting  to  meet  new  people   and  getting  to  learn  new  things  about  robots  and  computers  and  the  CAD  program.

My  goal  for  the  team  this  year  is  to  make  and  win  worlds.  I  know its a  big  goal,  but  you  know  what  they  say:  go  big  or  go  home !  I  believe  that  me  being  in  this  program  will  give  me  a  leg  up  in  society  and  give  me  a  leg   up  in  CAD,  for   example.  If  a  rookie  comes  into  CAD, I  could  help  him  out  in  the   program.  I  also  will  be  ahead  of  the  game  because  when  I  get  into  college,  I already  will  know  some  of  what  they  are  talking  about . I  am  very  grateful   for the  opportunity  to  be  in  this  group, and  i  think  it  will  help  me  out  in  the  long  run  .....  I  have   fun  everyday  I  come  and I  love  my  sub-team .

Being a part of the Mecanum Knights has changed my life in a lot of ways. Normally when I get home from a long day of AP classes and tedious assignments, I wouldn't look past my computer for anything physical. Now after joining Team 3667, the afternoons leave me wondering what will happen at the next meeting. I am beginning to learn new things that can help me in the future. It's way better than escaping into fantasy worlds that are only pieces of digital code.

Everything in the meetings are new experiences, not one day is the same. Now it may seem like I'm bored or tired but, I am really not able to express  emotions without a trigger. With all of these bonds that I have made with my fellow Knights, I'm happy to leave the house and unplug from the games. It's like having an extension of my family. I see all of my friends as brothers and sisters that I can help be the best and myself be the best of my ability.

I feel this is why Float sub-team is made for me.

It has impacted my life by getting to know new people, working together as a whole group. Previously I was a member of the 4H FTC team. When I went to my first competition, it was so interesting, then we went to my FTC competition and we had so much fun, watching, scouting and working together. This year, I moved on to FRC team 3667. People are so involved and not sitting around waiting to be told what to do, that's great. I like that there are different goals for different jobs.

Grade 9

How has the FIRST program impacted your life?

I have not been on the team for long, so I do not know exactly what I am expected to write here, nor do I know how I possibly  will fill an entire page. I am Mia, a ninth-grade student on the programming sub-team. I joined this team in... I would say late September of  year 17 of the second millennium, otherwise known as 2017. I have been interested in programming for a while, though in the year 2016 I spent the entire three months of no school teaching my self the programming language Lua, a lightweight scripting language that can be used in combination with C or, with a bit of work, C++.

As far as how this program has impacted my life, as I said, I haven't been part of it for long, though what I can say is thusly: my skills in teamwork, programming and problem solving have improved. I have not been good with working with other sentient beings (e.g. people), though being on the team has... slightly improved that. I am sure that as I continue to be part og the team I will learn more, improve the aforementioned skills and perhaps pick up some new ones along the way.

I do hope we win this year's competition. Speaking of which, it seems quite interesting, does it not? As one may evidence, I am attempting to fill the page at this point, as I have all but thought of more ideas that would agree with the point of this page. Anyway, I am very pleased to be on the team and am quite happy with the way things are going. As long as I remain interested in robotics (and I am sure that interest will not wane any time soon), I will remain a part of this team until I can do so no longer.

I suppose I have written a page now - in which case, I shall end this pagein this paragraph, which I do believe I have now done. On that note, I now end this written document.

The FIRST program has impacted me in many ways. So far FIRST has made me more motivated to learn. I have only been on the team for a short period of time. I've made many friends, students and mentors, and I have been able to be around others who share the same  interests. I would like to become a computer scientist and I feel FIRST will prepare me for that. This year I was hoping to learn programming, however I am learning to take and edit video for the Knightly News. Next year, I'm looking forward to build or electrical. I am glad to be learning new social skills as well. I have been able to meet many people from other schools from all around that I never would have done on my own. The team is made up from two local high schools who are crosstown rivals. Working together as a team we are able to put it aside and accomplish so much.

FIRST has impacted me in many ways. I am a first-year "noob" to the team, but have been going to competitions for the past three years. FIRST has shown me how to make theoretical concepts a reality. It also allows for a place for high-schoolers to learn team building and shows them how engineering works in the real world. I plan on continuing on into chemical engineering in college. It is part of the reason why I wanted to join Team 3667, to learn more of the engineering side of things. I have wanted to join for the past three years and thoroughly enjoy every bit of what I do on the team.

How has the FIRST program impacted your life?

The FIRST program has impacted me in so many ways. One being teaching me about everything that goes into making a robot for competition. I want to be an electrical engineer when I grow up, and although I'm a first year member, I have already learned many valuable things about the engineering field. I am on the fundraising sub-team, and it has really showed me how important money is for a high functioning robotics team to work at maximum efficiency. It has also made me aware of different ways to make money for a non-profit organization. Being a part of a FIRST robotics team has also helped me to develop better time-management skills. Due to limited time to build the robot, the organization requires a generous amount of every member's time. This has forced me to work around the robotics schedule to complete school work, participate in after-school activities, and the occasional free time. I also have made friends through the organization, and look forward to my future involvement on a FIRST robotics team.
