FIRST Team 3667, the Mecanum Knights , comprises students from Port Huron and Port Huron Northern high schools. The team was launched during the 2011 season as the result of some serious prodding by Capac Team 2604, Metal and Soul. Now in its third season, Team 3667 remains the Port Huron Area School District’s only robotics team and includes junior team members from district middle schools.
The team, currently part of the district’s Horizons 21st Century Community Learning Centers, operates out of its shop and engineering lab at the Harrison Center conveniently located off of Water Street in Port Huron. The team is led by Coach Scott Smith, a process engineer with SMR Automotive, and lead engineer Scott Austin.
The Knights meet at 6 p.m. on Mondays during the off-season for fundraising, training and marketing purposes, but from January through April, you’ll find team members working in the shop almost every evening and weekend.
The team’s motto is “Figure it Out.”
