FIRST Team 3667, the Mecanum Knights , comprises students from Port Huron and Port Huron Northern high schools. The team was launched during the 2011 season as the result of some serious prodding by Capac Team 2604, Metal and Soul. Now in its fourth season, Team 3667 remains the Port Huron Area School District’s only robotics team and includes junior team members from district middle schools.
The team, currently part of the district’s Horizons 21st Century Community Learning Centers, operates out of its shop and engineering lab at the Harrison Center conveniently located off of Water Street in Port Huron. The team is led by Coach Jack Jensen, and lead engineer Scott Austin.
The Knights meet at 6 p.m. on Mondays during the off-season for fundraising, training and marketing purposes, but from January through April, you’ll find team members working in the shop almost every evening and weekend.
The team’s motto is “Figure it Out.”
FIRST:The FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC®) combines the excitement of sport with science and technology to create a unique varsity Sport for the Mind™. FRC helps students ages 14 to 18 discover the rewarding and engaging world of innovation and engineering by affording them a hands-on opportunity to see the real-world applications of STEM.
The FIRST Robotics Competition brings high-school aged youth together with professional engineers and mentors in a six-week build season that taps their creativity, their ingenuity and their determination in what has been coined “the hardest fun you will ever have.”
Membership on a FIRST Robotics Team makes students eligible to apply for more than $16 million in college scholarship dollars for STEM-related courses of study. To learn more about the entire FIRST robotics program, visit usfirst.org.
"To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders."

Corporate sponsorship is crucial to our success. The Mecanum Knights are immensely grateful to the businesses that helped us to launch our inaugural season in 2011: JCPenney Birchwood Mall, The James C. Acheson Foundation, P.J. Wallbank Springs, JoAnn Wine and Associates, CareTech, Freescale Semiconductor and Phoenix Contact. Each of these sponsors continued their support for our second season during which we also gained the backing of such organizations as Port Huron Hospital and Huron Automatic Screw.
